The Iowa Community Tree Steward program offers intensive training in community tree management. This is achieved through six 3 hour training sessions, over a six week period. In both classroom and hands-on field labs you will learn: basic tree identification, species selection, tree planting, tree care and maintenance, pest management, value assessment, inventory techniques, program planning, funding, implementation, and much more.
This program is intended to serve citizen volunteers. Others who may attend include community forestry and park staff, tree care professionals, utility company representatives, and county conservation board staff. Completion of the Iowa Community Tree Steward program requires participants to contribute 24 volunteer hours on improving and expanding community tree resources within one year of course completion. Over 400 graduates of the program have donated in excess of 11,500 hours of community service back to their communities.
Continuing Education Units (CEU's) will be offered through the International Society of Arboriculture. Exact CEU's will be dependent on the final length of the community tree inventory workshop.
