Scheduled for July 16, Prairie Field Day 2024 will feature several guest speakers and onsite tours of the three prairie projects currently at the station - the remnant prairie, the reconstructed prairie and the Department of Natural Resources prairie seed production project. Nick Howell, superintendent of the Horticulture Research Station, said he is excited to welcome new faces and introduce them to the impact of prairies on the environment. “There's nothing more useful in the environment than prairie for things like carbon sequestration,” Howell said.
Iowa Learning Farms will host a pollinator and Conservation Reserve Program field day Thursday, June 27, from 10:30 to 12:30 p.m. at Pete Tollenaere’s farm near Fairfield. The free event is open to farmers and landowners and includes a complimentary meal.
Partners include Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Pathfinders RC&D and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and the Iowa Nutrient Research Center will host a free half-day workshop on the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy for farmers, landowners, and conservation professionals on June 18th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the East Shelter House, Swan Lake State Park near Carroll, Iowa.

Iowa Learning Farms, in partnership with the Des Moines Water Works and the Conservation Learning Group, will host the first of three upcoming “Conservation On Tap” events, Thursday, June 13, from 6-7 p.m. at Confluence Brewing Co. in Des Moines. The event will provide local farmers, landowners and urban residents a chance to discuss conservation and ask questions. There will be an opportunity for networking following the event.

The 2024 Iowa Woodland Owners Association Spring Forestry Field Day will be hosted at, and sponsored by, New Melleray Abbey Forestry. This unique location will provide participants an opportunity to to view one of Iowa's largest private forestry and forest products operations, as well as an extensive riparian restoration effort to enhance water quality!
The Natural Resources Stewardship Professional Development Day is an annual one-day training and networking event for extension professionals to come together from across Iowa and a broad swath of program areas and disciplines to be inspired by some time outdoors, as well as discuss, network, and learn about natural resource issues, educational needs, and programming opportunities.This year's program is on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 and will be exploring conservation around Carroll and Guthrie Counties.
The Forest City Parks department and the Iowa DNR would like to invite you to a forestry field day at Thomas Bearse Park in Forest City Iowa to talk about invasive species and forest management.
The Forest City Parks Department has started the difficult process of controlling the European Buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica) in the park. This field day will talk about what has been done and what will be needed to control this very invasive species. We will also talk about oak management and the difficulties of perpetuating oak on the landscape.
The Women's Woodland Stewardship Network is offering an event at McFarland Park in Ames on Saturday, April 27th, from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. We will spend the morning exploring the woods around the park with ISU professor Dr. Cathy McMullen who will talk about woodland wildflower identification and woodland understory restoration.
Farmers across the Midwest and beyond have been incorporating cover crops into their rotation at an increasing rate – mostly to improve soil health and reduce water quality concerns. But can cover crops also provide habitat for birds and other wildlife? Two wildlife experts will help answer this question during an April 25 webinar hosted by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service.
The Women's Woodland Stewardship Network (WWSN) is partnering with the Iowa DNR and Bur Oak Land Trust to offer a chainsaw class for women that will be led by women instructors. Bur Oak Land Trust will lead the chainsaw education during the day, and WWSN and the DNR will lead an evening learning session about woodland management and tree identification. This is a nice weekend getaway opportunity and a great way to meet other women who care for woodlands!
Iowa Learning Farms, in partnership with the Mahaska County Soil and Water Conservation District, will host a wetland and beaver dam water quality workshop on Tuesday, March 26 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Mahaska County Environmental Learning Center in Oskaloosa.
Farmers and landowners are encouraged to attend this free workshop and to join for a complimentary meal. Iowa Learning Farms is a conservation program with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

Cover crops help prevent nitrate loss and protect soil from erosion, but also add work to plant in the fall. What if you could have a cover crop that you only had to plant once? Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will examine this topic during a field day, Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Gaesser Farm, 2507 Quince Ave., Corning, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The field day is open to the public.
