Join local Warren County conservation professionals for a field day showcasing a standout Central Iowa farm transformed into a habitat haven. The farm is a keystone example of the wildlife benefits that come with targeted grassland and timber management. We will be highlighting how tentative planning and management has transformed the farm from having an average of one covey a year to the latest 9 coveys in modern years!

Location: Nelson Farm- 24249 Polk St. Lacona, IA 50139 

When: 10/10/25 from 9 to 9:30am registration 9:30 to 3:00pm event

Morning Session:

  1. Grassland Management for Bobwhite Quail, pollinators, and everything in-between- Blake Charboneau- Iowa DNR Private Lands Biologist
  2. Forestry for Wildlife- Zach Nie- Iowa DNR District Forester

    ~ Lunch from 12:00pm to 12:30 pm ~ (lunch and drink provided if RSVPed)

Afternoon Session:

  1. 12:30-1:30 pm Prairie and Mangement Field Showcase/Discussions
  2. 1:30-2:30 pm Forestry and Management Field Showase/Discussions

Please dress prepared to walk through numerous cover types, including prairie and timber. Plan to walk approximately one-half mile in the afternoon.
